Rangers success off the pitch continues to match that on it and the progress made over the last three years could finally see them surpass Celtic in the money stakes.

Speaking to Football Insider, finance expert Kieran Maguire believes that Champions League qualification will not only bring the extra revenue needed for this to happen but it will also attract bigger and wealthier commercial partners:

“Their (Celtic’s) matchday income is around £40m in a non-Covid season.

“It has been well into the £45-50m bracket in previous seasons when they were in Europe. That’s £10m or £15m more than Rangers got from matchday in 2019-20.

“Celtic’s matchday is over 40 per cent of their total revenue, which is crazy when you compare it to clubs like Burnley in the Premier League who are at just four per cent

“They’ve had a couple of years in the Champions League and Europa League. So they have had more money coming in from other sources than Rangers.

“Celtic have also had higher revenues from commercial partners as a result.”

We’ve have all seen what Celtic have had to do without the Champions League, sell Moussa Dembele and Kieran Tierney, they simply don’t have that luxury anymore especially when you consider their best players like Odsonne Edouard and Kris Ajer only have a year left to run on their contracts – they will be losing millions on the pair.

It’s incredible how a club that had so much money in the bank – as we were repeatedly told – and were so dominant on the pitch have completely capitulated, not only has Dave King’s “pack of cards” claim came true but he has provided the building blocks for our own legacy to be built.
