With a squad list that currently stands at 32 names, Michael Beale and Ross Wilson have some serious work in the summer in not only upgrading the squad but also, getting it down to a more manageable number.

Letting the players who are out of contract leave would be a start but there are also those who are down the pecking order and little more than rotation options for the early rounds of the cups when everyone is fit.

With Todd Cantwell arriving and Ianis Hagi fit again, Scott Wright now finds himself in the position and, with Alex Lowry also expected to be given more game time in the future, he might find himself surplus to requirements in the summer.

Speaking to Football Insider, Alan Hutton reckons that there are definite doubts over the future of the 25-year old and that it might be the right time to sell:

“I think there is definitely a question mark over him.

“He has been used a lot as an impact sub and at times he has done well. I think he needs to do more. He has got the ability but he needs to do it on a consisted basis.

“So it would not surprise me if the manager is looking at different options. He will want to put his own stamp on the team as well.

“There is going to be a big turnaround I think. The summer is massive for Rangers with some of the boys that are out of contract, the likes of Allan McGregor potentially retiring. There is a big recruitment drive coming up.“

Wright’s statistics don’t make for great reading for a Rangers forward. Just two assists from 29 appearances this season and eight goals in total in nearly 80 games for the club. We need much better if we really are to move forwards. Compare this to Fashion Sakala who has 30 goal contributions in the same number of games. He might be inconsistent but at least he can contribute in terms of numbers.

Ross Wilson’s biggest job in the summer won’t be replacing good players that leave, it will be trying to offload players like Wright who aren’t contributing and don’t have a future under Beale. With as many as five players needing to be sold to make room, it’s not going to be an easy task.
