A report in Football Insider has claimed that Rangers are set to offer Ryan Kent at least £28,000 per week (approximately £1.5million a year) to reflect his status as one of Steven Gerrard’s key men.

The forward has been in sparkling form since the season kicked-off and despite only signing permanently last summer on a four year deal, the Light Blues hierarchy are looking to bump his salary up from his current weekly wage of £20,000.

The rise wold see him join the likes of Alfredo Morelos, James Tavernier and Jermain Defoe amongst the club’s top earners and a position that few would be able to find argument against.

Kent has five goals and five assists to his name so far this term and has been an early driving force as Rangers sit top of the Premiership with group stage football also secured in the Europa League for the third successive season.

The 23-year old had been the subject of interest throughout the summer transfer window with Leeds United having a reported £10million bid turned down, considering his value to the team, his form and that Rangers paid £7m for him it was never going to be anywhere near enough.

Is Kent worth a pay rise?

Yes

Yes

No

Football Insider claims that he has a £20m release clause in his deal and any new contract negotiations could see that price tag rise considerable, given his newly found importance to the team.

He was always capable of providing moments of excellence, but he has now found the consistency demanded by both his manager and fans as he looks to lead his side to their first top flight title since 2011 – and if he does, he will have been worth every penny and more.
