A couple of weeks ago, the fixture list that waits for us on the other side of the international break carried a certain degree of trepidation, now, after what we saw against Ross County, we should look forward to it with excitement.

Ten goals in two domestic games is a sign that things are starting to click in attack, we’ll ignore the defensive lapses for now because it isn’t possible to keep losing a goal for every shot that we concede, Filip Helander will make a difference when he returns but Leon Balogun has been our best defender in recent weeks, the big Swede wouldn’t keep clean sheets on his own  – bizarrely though, our defence is in pretty good shape, the issue is a mental one.

At the other end of the park there is a lot to whet the appetite, Ryan Kent looks like a totally different player since coming back from injury – a goal and an assist in his two games, both game changers, suggests that he has his mojo back, he also “looks” sharper.

We also saw Ryan Jack get his first minutes of the season, Steven Gerrard will be delighted that he has the Scotland international available again for selection given how important he is, especially when it comes to protecting the defence and our shape out of possession – it’s no coincidence that our European form has dipped since he has been injured.

There would be no better time to go on a run of wins now that the two Ryans are back starting with when we face Hibs in the league cup semi-final, our targets haven’t changed; domestic cups, progress in Europe and stay top of the league when the winter break comes around.
