Little has been made about Rangers having to make do without three of their best players over the last couple of months at a time when they could have been forgiven for stuttering across the line.

Kemar Roofe has recently returned to action and looked a lot sharper against Cove Rangers but we will have to wait a little longer before we see James Tavernier and Ryan Jack, as reported by The Daily Record.

Steven Gerrard was asked for an update on the pair and he had mixed news – depending on your disposition:

“I’d say he’s got an outside chance, James, of being involved against Celtic.

“He is still outside in a one-v-one capacity with the physio but he is progressing pretty well.

“In terms of Ryan, we are waiting on some news today, we have been back and forth with a couple of specialists over the last couple of days.

“He has still been doing his thing with the physios and the medical team here but we are hoping for some positive news.”

So, not all bad then, if there is any risk over the skipper he won’t play, there is simply no need to given the form of Nathan Patterson, plus, if the 19-year old’s appeal is unsuccessful, Tavernier is better being held back so that he is 100% fit.

The prognosis for Jack does seem to be better than a lot of fans feared, surely if he was going to be needing an operation then the manager would be less upbeat?

Seeing them both back in blue before the end of the season would be the icing on the cake, two players who played such a pivotal role and deserve to be on the pitch when the medals are being handed out.
