Rangers striker Nacho Novo has spoken about his fear that he could be leaving the club in the summer. The little Spaniard, a fans favourite, is out of contract this summer, and with the uncertainty over Rangers finances’ it may be that he is not offered a new contract.

Novo has been at Ibrox since 2004 when he signed from Dundee, and is one of Rangers’ longest serving players. He does not hide his love for the club and has admitted that he cannot bear the thought of not appearing in his beloved light blue jersey.

Speaking at a press conference before last night’s Aberdeen game, Novo said: ‘If I need to move, it will be hard, this club is like my family. I’ve made very good friends here and the fans are just the best fans in the world. They have been terrific with me. I would miss coming through the tunnel and onto the park and seeing that stadium full of fans. That’s one of the biggest things I would miss.’

Meanwhile, Rangers gaffer Walter Smith has said he would consider working on next season, still without a contract. When asked if he will still be here next season in a week to week basis he commented: ‘I wouldn’t like to see it happening. But I don’t look at it from my point of view, I look at it from the club’s. We have made it quite clear that we will work until things are clarified.’

Smith, along with his assistants Ally McCoist and Kenny McDowell have been working without contracts since January of this year. An amazing commitment in this day in age.

Rangers captain David Weir has admitted Rangers are within touching distance of retaining their SPL title. The veteran stopper commented: ‘It’s getting closer but there is still a bit of work to be done.’ He added: ‘It’s difficult and obviously we know we are getting closer but the last bit is often the hardest.’

Meanwhile Weir’s young defensive partner Danny Wilson is being tracked by English giants Liverpool. The 18 year old is out of contract in the summer, and despite Rangers’ best efforts, he is yet to commit himself to the club.

This could mean that clubs such as Liverpool could snap him up for next to nothing. There may still be a small fee because he is part of Rangers’ youth set up, but any fee would be nominal.

There is no shortage of interest from the Premiership with Aston Villa, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur also interested.

At this rate, Rangers’ championship winning team could be totally dismantled over the summer. Let’s hope that they manage to tie up the contracts of key players.

Don’t forget that Kris Boyd is also on the verge of leaving for Birmingham unless Rangers can get him to sign a contract. And there is bound to be interest for the likes of Madjid Bougherra and Steven Davis. Even Kyle Lafferty appears to be a wanted man down at Wolves.
