Rangers risk losing out on £2.7m-rated star this summer if urgent action is not taken

|

Rangers need to lock down midfielder Steven Davis’ signing before the end of the season, or risk losing him for a second time.

You may remember there was a bit of a quirk when it came to the former Southampton man’s arrival at Ibrox in January.

With his contract expiring at the Saints come the end of the season, many expected the veteran midfielder to sign up at Rangers on a permanent basis.

However, his deal was announced as a loan until the summer.

That means that if the status quo remains he is set to leave the Gers at the end of May, with the midfielder and his representatives free to talk to any club he likes in the meantime.

That leaves Rangers at risk of losing out on his talents in Steven Gerrard’s first-team squad, just as he is beginning to find form in the starting eleven.

The Northern Ireland international, who is currently rated as worth £2.7m by Transfermarkt, has been a stand-out in both our recent 3-o wins over Hearts and Motherwell.

He’s had to remain patient for chances, with early form in a Rangers shirt not especially exciting, but Gerrard now appears to trust he is a player that can be relied upon in the middle of the park.

With further match fitness will come even more dynamic performances and he’s certainly worth keeping as we head into a new season.

It may be that the manager and recruitment team haven’t quite made up their mind on Davis’ long-term future, but we can’t leave it too long or he’ll simply end up somewhere else.
