Reports from Turkey suggest that Rangers could be set to lose star striker Alfredo Morelos imminently, with Fenerbahce eager to seal the deal on his transfer.

Turkish outlet Milliyet reckon that Fenerbahce director of football Damien Comolli is actually in Glasgow negotiating his purchase, which could be wrapped up in the coming days.

Losing him would be a major blow to Rangers’ first team squad ahead of UEFA Europa League qualifiers, with no replacement having yet been confirmed despite seven summer signings in total.

Morelos has certainly had his critics since signing from HJK Helsinki last summer but there’s no doubt that on his day he is a hugely effective forward and at just 22 years of age, has the potential to improve even further.

He scored 18 goals and provided eight assists in all competitions last season for the Gers, a fantastic return for a debut season.

However, with fees of £6.2m reported to be on the table for the Colombian as recently as last month, the reality is that the club can’t really afford to turn down that kind of cash for too long.

Rejecting advances for now would at least be a signal of intent that Rangers have ambitions to make serious progress in the Europa League qualifiers this summer.

There’s plenty of time to sell Morelos and rushing into a departure at this stage doesn’t make sense from a footballing point of view.
