Alfredo Morelos had grown up, cleaned up his act and hadn’t had a red card since his ridiculous one away to Motherwell in December 2019, not far off three years ago – until the weekend that is.

Against Hibs on Sunday when we needed our senior players to stand up and be counted – Morelos, at 26-years old is one of those now – the Colombian international let his personal frustrations get the better of him and lost the plot, the rag, and, probably, his side the three points in the process.

He will be frustrated at his lack of game time but, then again, he doesn’t look fit enough for Giovanni van Bronckhorst to justify starting him – he looked back to his best under the Dutchman after he replaced Steven Gerrard so it’s not like he can say that the manager doesn’t fancy him, and then there’s Antonio Colak’s form.

With just one year left on his deal though we have a decision to make – should we sell him, and can we strengthen the team if we do?

The problem is that we can’t judge him on form because he isn’t fit enough, but what we can do is judge him on attitude and what he did at Easter Road was unforgivable. It might be his first offence under Gio but he’s been in Scottish football for five years now and knows exactly what the refs are like.

He should be trying harder than ever to force his way back into the team, not making it harder for himself, he can only count himself lucky that Kemar Roofe isn’t fit either or he might have found himself even further down the pecking order.

As we’ve seen with Colak, there are other players out there who can score goals, they might not be Morelos, but then again, who is?
