Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty, on loan at English League One side Shrewsbury Town, is eyeing a January review of his situation at Ibrox, but is willing to do what it takes to break into the side long-term.

The 22-year-old was given the opportunity to move south to gain regular first-team football, which wasn’t on offer under Steven Gerrard, and is so far happy with his decision.

However, he is taking everything on a game-by-game basis.

As quoted by The Daily Record, the former Hamilton man said:

Getting out of the limelight for a little while has been great. I’ve come down here to experience something different, and so far, I am enjoying it.

I’ll take it game by game up until January and see where things are at, and if I’m here for the season then that’s fine. Whatever it takes to make a real success of my Rangers career, I’ll do it.

It’s interesting to hear he could possibly make a return during the January transfer window, although Gerrard is currently blessed with a multitude of options in the middle of the park.

So far the move to Shrewsbury appears to be doing Docherty good, so there should be no rush in bringing him back to Ibrox prematurely.

Hopefully when the time comes he’ll be ready to show Gerrard and the Rangers support what we’ve been missing out on.
