Steven Gerrard has been extremely busy since assuming his responsibilities as the new Rangers manager. The Liverpool legend has overseen several transfers since being appointed as the new Gers boss, and he is expected to continue with his recruitment in an attempt to disrupt Celtic’s dominance.

As the Daily Record reports, Rangers have been linked with a move for AS Roma’s Umar Sadiq, and Steven Gerrard has even disclosed his public admiration for the Nigerian striker.

“We’re a fan of Umar Sadiq. He’d bring us a forward option – height, power, presence. He’s a player that works too hard believe it or not.”

“He does tons and tons of running. He’s very enthusiastic. He’s the type of player who gives you just as much out of possession as he does in possession which is very important

“We’ve got an interest, but at the moment he’s still a Roma player. It’s ongoing. We have to be respectful and see how it progresses, but he’s someone we like.”

Rangers had the best attack in the Scottish Premiership last season, yet it seems that Steven Gerrard is keen to consolidate the Gers’ attacking dominance. Seemingly, Umar Sadiq is the man that Gerrard has identified to enhance the calibre of the Rangers attack further.

To date, the promising 21-year-old has only made six appearances for AS Roma, scoring two goals – both of which came in the Serie A. He also had a couple of unsuccessful loan spells at Torino and Bologna, but the striker testified his ruthlessness during the second-half of last season. Sadiq spent the second half of last season on loan with NAC Breda, in the Eredivisie, and he scored five goals in 12 games for the Dutch side.

The striker is an accomplished talent, who flaunts several vital attributes. The Nigerian forward is regarded for his ability to retain possession, and his tendency to play tremendous through balls. Similarly, he is a distinguished dribbler of the ball, and he’s acknowledged for his ceaseless work ethic. Additionally, he has proven to be a menace when attacking set-pieces.

That said, he isn’t devoid of imperfections. Sadiq tends to be caught offside often, and he commits too many fouls. Nonetheless, he is an exceptional player, and he would be a terrific addition to Rangers.
