The fall-out following Rangers 1-0 win over Celtic has been as pathetic as it has ben predictable, however, nobody could have seen the events of the last few days coming.

The Daily Record’s decision to attack the Heart and Hand podcast for historical social media posts has backfired spectacularly as supporters unite to expose that are throwing stones from within glass houses.

Late on Sunday night, the paper announced that it was now carrying out a full investigation into the journalists who appear to have crossed the line in the past, something that they accused the podcast’s contributors of – both of whom are signed up to participate in Rangers “Everyone, Anyone” training, designed to educate on and iradicate intolerance.

What we have learned is that there are certain members of the Scottish parliament and press that will demand action when Rangers fans display intolerant behaviour and yet will turn a blind eye when other members of society, or supporters of other clubs, commit similar offences, that individuals like Michael Stewart continue on a daily basis to demand a statement from the Ibrox hierarchy whilst ignoring the actions as others only serves to prove his agenda.

If the end goal is to rid Scottish football of racism, sectarianism and intolerance then every incident from every club and every individual associated with the game in this country has to be treated the same both by journalists and by politicians, that The Daily Record chose to go after a fan media outlet from one club whilst ignoring the others does nothing but show they want to stoke the issue rather than solve it – a decision that many within the publication will be regretting now.
