Rangers are lining up a January transfer move for former Ibrox hero Steven Davis, according to reports today.

The Daily Record say that he’s been linked with a return to Glasgow having failed to win a place in Mark Hughes’ Southampton first-team as of late.

It’s a move that would definitely please supporters, as we revealed yesterday.

Davis is now 33 years of age but would still likely have the quality to make a big impact on Steven Gerrard’s squad and offer a bit more stability than loan signings like Ovie Ejaria, who is heading back to Liverpool next year.

He won eight trophies with the club in his first spell at Ibrox, delighting fans with dynamic and committed midfield play. He was also instrumental in the run to the 2008 UEFA Cup Final.

The Northern Ireland international is rated as worth £3.6m by Transfermarkt, though would surely be available cheaper given his contract expires at St Mary’s come the end of the season.

This is definitely one to watch ahead of the transfer window opening.
