Rangers legend and current assistant manager Ally McCoist has said that Rangers are hopeful that in form striker Kenny Miller will sign a new contract.

The 31 year old striker who has scored 22 goals already this season is out of contract at the end of the season and has been tipped for an Ibrox season when the transfer window opens on January 1st.

But Rangers are hopeful he will sign a new contract and following on the heels of Steven Naismith who also signed a new contract last week. Keeping these two would be a major boost to Rangers in their quest to secure three in a row and to go in a run in the UEFA Europa League.

Speaking about the situation, McCoist said: ‘Kenny’s representative and chief executive Martin Bain have had lengthy talks. We’re very, very hopeful he’ll sign a new deal to stay.’ If Miller does not sign then he is free to sign a pre-contract with another club.

Miller has said he is keen to stay but so far has not agreed to put pen to paper. The striker has had his best goalscoring season this season and has easily replaced the goals that Kris Boyd would have scored.

Walter Smith wants to hang on to him until the end of the season at least should he not sign a new contract, but may be forced to try and cash in on him during the transfer window in January.
