Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed the club are ‘on the cusp’ of announcing the capture of Motherwell winger Jake Hastie, speaking to media earlier this week.

The Gers have been consistently linked with a move for the 20-year-old over the past couple of months after his emergence in the Steelmen’s first-team since January.

There have been many reports that he is due to sign, but Gerrard has given fans a signal it is definitely happening.

As tweeted by PLZ Soccer, the Ibrox boss said: “We’re on the cusp of mentioning Hastie, that will be announced very, very soon.”

Whether that means this week or at the end of the season remains to be seen. It’s always tricky for players to have their departure announced before the end of the season, potentially limiting appearances and alienating fans.

With seven goals in the second half of the season, the hope will be Hastie can provide fresh attacking ideas in the final third at the Gers next season, potentially replacing Ryan Kent’s output on the left flank.

He has the ability to place on the right hand side too, giving us a bit of versatility when it comes to the wing positions.

Can the prospect fulfil his potential in Steven Gerrard’s side?
