Rangers are set to sign Dominic Solanke on loan in the January transfer window, replacing flop signing Umar Sadiq, according to The Scottish Sun.

The paper report that while teams like Crystal Palace are also interested in Solanke’s signature, the promise of first-team football at Ibrox will see Steven Gerrard deliver his latest signing coup.

Solanke has yet to play for the Reds this season but made 27 appearances last term, with Jurgen Klopp still seeing him as part of his long-term plans at the club if he can improve to the required level.

At Scottish Premiership level he should shine, with his addition set to give Gerrard’s squad a massive boost in the second half of the season.

Currently just two points behind table toppers Celtic, this is the kind of signing that could really help us challenge for the league title.

The report comes as Gerrard confirmed his intention to sit down with club chiefs and finalise their January strategy, with the manager feeling like there are certainly improvements to make in the team.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the manager said:

We never stop looking to improve. In terms of January I don’t envisage many signings.

It’s difficult to say if it will be one or two, but it’ll be quality rather than quantity, for sure.

If that quality player becomes available in January then I will ask the board to support me on it.

We are coming up to a transfer window and to an AGM, so there will be a lot on the agenda to talk about with the chairman. I’m really looking forward to the meal with him.

It’s all rather exciting and I can’t wait to see how it pans out in the new year.
