Nathan Patterson became Rangers biggest ever transfer yesterday and with it, we will now be linked with him at almost every transfer window – unless he goes onto fulfil the potential that we all know he has and becomes too expensive.

The same has happened before with the likes of Steven Naismith, Alan Hutton and more recently Billy Gilmour, however, in Patterson’s case, he could genuinely move on to even bigger and better things such is the level of ability that we have seen whenever he has been asked to cover for James Tavernier.

Everton is a good move though, plenty Rangers players in the past have made the same one, with the Scottish international clearly delighted at getting to Goodison, as told to the club’s YouTube channel:

“I’m over the moon to sign for Everton and looking forward to getting started.

“It was an easy choice to sign. This is a massive club with huge history and the fanbase is tremendous.”
Similar to when Steven Gerrard left, you wouldn’t expect the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea or Man City to come in for our top talent but it makes it a little easier to take when “big” clubs with a decent history are the destinations, anything else would be a considerable step down – at least Everton and Aston Villa have bigger aspirations other than Premier League survival.
Patterson has his head screwed on and despite having signed a five and a half year deal, I’d be surprised if he is still at Everton in a few years time, a return to Rangers is even less likely.
