Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s final preparations for our daunting trip to Italy took place at Auchenhowie yesterday and the session looked more like it was the B team that were warming up to face the Italian giants.

Spare a thought for the physiotherapists at the training centre just now because there is no way that they have enough room or staff to be able to cope with what is an unprecedented workload at such a key phase of the season.

Ridvan Yilmaz was seen in training, as was Leon King, so it looks as though they have at least recovered from the weekend’s injury and illness that affected their respective participation and at least gives us a couple more options.

One notable absentee was Glen Kamara. The Finland international, on close inspection, doesn’t appear in the Sky Sports clip after the Gers manager suggested last week that he would be available to make the trip – he might not be in the best of form but we desperately needed his composure and ability on the ball in midfield, unfortunately, he hasn’t made it.

There was also no sign of Kemar Roofe either, although he might have been doing individual fitness work before taking part, his lack of game time remains an issue but he will be expected to feature, if not start at the weekend seeing as he isn’t in the European squad – the last thing we need when we are just getting him up to speed is to lose him again.

Gio’s options might already be limited, but he will be hoping to have significantly more experience and quality available to him than we saw in this Sky Sports video.
