Aside from Alfredo Morelos’ clever header and Connor Goldson’s imperious defensive display, one of the big talking points coming out of Rangers’ clash with Croatian side NK Osijek was the performance of opposition captain Borna Barisic.

The 25-year-old left-back gave the Gers a torrid time throughout the 90 minutes, getting forward with intelligent runs and providing a real threat with some accurate crossing.

The right-sided Rangers duo of Jamie Murphy and James Tavernier certainly didn’t enjoy going up against him.

The Gers already have plenty of options at left-back in Jon Flanagan and Declan John, but with Lee Hodson on his way out of the club and former captain Lee Wallace likely joining him, there may be room for another left-sided player in Steven Gerrard’s squad.

The performance of Barisic on Thursday night even suggested he may be able to be utilised in a more advanced left midfield role given how adept he was in supporting his more attacking teammates.

A Croatian international with three caps to date, the most recent of which came in May just before their incredible run to the World Cup final, he appears to be one of the best defenders in his country right now.

Rated at £1.8m by Transfermarkt, he seems to be within financial range of the club too, even if you doubled that estimated fee.

All the boxes are ticked and even if he is out of range during this transfer window, surely he is one to keep in mind going forward?
