Now that the Europa League group stages are under way, the games will be coming thick and fast for Steven Gerrard’s side with Motherwell up next on the calendar.

Last season we saw both sides of the Steelmen with them adopting an array of tactics that garnered one point across the three games, however, I’m not sure who is going to score our goals now that Cedric Itten is out on loan.

Graham Alexander is known for being a pragmatic coach, getting his teams to be well organised and hard to beat, they have recruited well in the summer and look to have a more potent strike force with Kevin van Veen leading the line.

But, as with most games in the Scottish Premiership, it should be how we play that determines the outcome of the match and the Gers gaffer is starting to have more options available to him with Juninho Bacuna, Fashion Sakala and John Lundstram being added to the squad and looking to make an impact.

Against a “stuffy” defence, having Bacuna in midfield could prove to be useful, even if it is off the bench, a player capable of a piece of magic from a deeper position and one who is never shy to try something, regardless of whether or not it comes off. Having Lundstram as the central midfielder should also be considered, give him more responsibility, Steven Davis can’t play every week.

Which former Celtic striker currently plays for Lyon?

Sakala too should be back in contention for to start, if Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos are to be our first-choice pairing on the continent, then it makes sense to keep them as fresh as possible – the former’s injury history making him the most likely to be rested or rotated, whichever you prefer.

We can expect more games like the one against St Johnstone, teams will continue to play the percentages in terms of giving themselves the best chance to nick points knowing that if they come out and attack that it will play into our hands – as always, an early goal for Rangers would make a huge difference and we are due a good performance, hopefully our forwards find their shooting boots again and remind the rest of the league that we are champions and top of the league for a reason.
