Alfredo Morelos’s return to form couldn’t have come at a better time.

He’s not been playing badly – far from it – but he hadn’t been quite as prolific in front of goal, however, in true Kyle Lafferty fashion, he has turned up when it matters most – at the business end of the season.

Of the nine goals scored against Royal Antwerp, he had a hand in eight of them, for the ninth he had already left the park, and it is performances like these that will set his value, as already discussed by Vital Rangers, and Gers fans are in agreement that a baseline figure of £20million.

A recent poll showed that 88% of fans think that we will, at least, achieve the figure set by Stewart Robertson in 2019 where a comparison to the fee Celtic received for Moussa Dembele was used as the benchmark – it has been one of, if not the biggest difference between the two sides in the 21st century that they have continuously been able to generate significant income from player sales whereas we have regularly paid players off.

We are nearing the next stage of our rehabilitation where selling players/assets after developing them for a few seasons becomes a key part of our business model, when you consider the money paid for Glen Kamara, Joe Aribo, Borna Barisic and Morelos, it makes you wonder why we have been so ineffective at this before when each of them would command an eight-figure fee were they to leave this summer.

Two things are inevitable, Morelos will eventually leave and when he does, he will break our transfer record currently held by Alan Hutton, it will be a blow, but we will be compensated by the rage from across the city caused by fans imploding at the sight of a player, they have spent years telling anyone who will listen is garbage, leaving for more money than Dembele – you heard it here first.
