Some transfers make sense and seem to fit a pattern, whilst others, think Oli McBurnie for £15million, simply don’t, and can be dismissed pretty quickly.

The Daily Mail has reported on Rangers lining up a potential move for Millwall striker Abdul Abdulmalik, the 18-year old England youth cap being lined-up by several top flight clubs including Arsenal.

It makes sense, we might not be looking for immediate reinforcements for the first-team but given Abdulmalik’s profile, it is exactly the sort of move we have seen from Ross Wilson in the past.

Nathan Young-Coombes has sadly returned south to sign for Brentford, I say sadly because I had genuinely high hopes of him one day making an impact at senior level, he might not be the quickest or most physical of players, but his ability to be in the right place at the right time and ability to make things happen in the box – especially in big games – are talents that remind me a lot of a younger Kemar Roofe.

It could be that the Millwall youngster is being targeted to replace the space in the academy left by NYC, and the good thing is, he wouldn’t cost a fortune.

The well trodden path of the cross-border regulations mean that we would be able to get Abdulmalik for just a development fee, which would be less than the £300, 000 paid for Joe Aribo purely because of his age and lack of experience at first-team level.

It’s one to watch, but another sign that we aren’t just looking at the here and now and have a plan to ensure our return to the top is secure for both the short and long term.
