First it was Alfredo Morelos, then it was Juan Alegria followed by a rumour that our Europa League tormentor in chief, Rafael Santos Borre, was a transfer target – it would appear that we love keeping an eye on Colombian strikers, especially if the latest rumour is anything to go by.

Mateo Cassierra, a 25-year old striker currently playing in Russia for PFC Sochi is said to have already been contacted by Rangers with Giovanni van Bronckhorst reportedly a fan from his time in the Netherlands, Dave Vos will also be aware of him with the forward having spent three years in and around the Ajax academy, not a bad place to learn your trade.

On Twitter, Patrick Caskie of This is Ibrox and The Rangers Review ran the numbers, as he did for goalkeeping target Vladan Kovacevic, and there is a lot to like.

Comfortable as a lone striker, Caskie describes Cassierra as fast, a good finisher, can create chances for others, holds the ball up well and is decent in the air – what’s not to like?

Tipped as a replacement for Cedric Itten or a more reliable option to rest Morelos, Cassierra has scored 14 goals and made six assists in 26 games this season, in short, he has an end product.

Contracted until 2023, the report in Sport24, a Russian news outlet, claims that he has already been contacted by Rangers and that talks are underway, getting in a top and high profile signing this quickly would be a great start to the summer.

The first  couple of rumours are promising ones in terms of profile and potential, let’s hope we get the deals done early to give us the best possible chance of making the Champions League for the first time in over a decade, let the games commence!
