You might have missed it through the deafening silence that is the Rangers PR team’s ignorance of the current seethe amongst the support but, as previously reported by Vital Rangers, it would appear that we are heading to Germany to bolster our goalkeeper options.

Schalke stopper Martin Fraisl is part of the second best defence in 2. Bundesliga as his side attempts to get promoted back to the top flight but the Austrian is out of contract in the summer and according to Ronan Murphy, who is a Bundesliga pundit for the Sony Sports Network, we have made an offer to the 28-year old.

With Allan McGregor likely to retire we will need to add another senior goalkeeper, Jon McLaughlin and Robby McCrorie can be trusted but we need more depth and it would appear that Fraisl has been identified as the man for the job, Patrick Caskie who has provided analysis for The Rangers Review, This is Ibrox and Vital Rangers running the numbers on Fraisl.

Because we have been that used to Allan McGregor, we have forgotten what a modern keeper is all about. The emphasis on being able to support build up play, sweep up behind the defence and command the whole box, not just the six-yard area, Fraisl performing well across most metrics.

Goalkeeper is always a position that will have a fear of the unknown and playing for Rangers is a very different proposition to most other teams, I’m all for bringing in someone in as a back up but McLaughlin has proven that he deserves the chance to be our number one next season.
