Borna Barisic is on the verge of World Cup action with Croatia as the Balkan nation prepare to make their bow in Qatar.

The 30-year old briefly tasted action at the delayed Euro 2020 tournament last Summer but given that it was in the familar environment of Hampden Park, this time will feel much different on the biggest stage of all in the international game, even if it is diminished with a lack of atmosphere and a ‘usual’ fervent backdrop from the stands.

Regardless, the World Cup still represents so much to a nation’s football fans as well as the wider public with the Croats out to make their mark as is now routine. They get underway in Group F tomorrow morning (10am Uk time) against Morocco with Belgium meeting Canada in the following game.

Barisic is not assured to be first choice with other options available to head coach Zlatko Dalic but he is a trusted figure who can be relied upon.

The Rangers full back expressed his delight at making the squad, as reported by the club’s official website:

“I’m very happy and proud that one of my dreams is coming true, to go to the World Cup and represent my country and family. I want to thank the club, my teammates and staff, everyone around Rangers, because I will be representing the club and they helped me a lot to achieve this.”

BB is out to win his 29th cap with his next appearance for Croatia with his debut coming almost six years ago in a friendly against Chile, played in China in January 2017.

Everyone from a Rangers perspective will be keeping an eye out for our man in the hope of seeing him prosper on the pitch.
