Has there been a season like this for a long time? I am not so sure.

We’ve seen controversy after controversy this season and it certainly looks as though it is not going to end any time soon.

Referees, crowd behaviour and plenty of soundbites among it all, it’s been a tempestuous, argumentative campaign.

Last night, then, the latest fallout began as Steve Clarke cited sectarian chanting fired his way, in what was a pretty brutal statement from the Kilmarnock manager.

For sure, he didn’t really pull any punches, and whilst he also had a go at the refereeing standards once again, the former was probably the headline-grabber.

More will come out of this, then, and Steven Gerrard has had his say pre-Hamilton.

Of course, Gerrard has had to keep his powder dry a fair bit with what he has said but it’s the proper response – and it is getting tiresome.

Will it ever go from this country, though? It’s hard to really see it right now.
