Most transfer windows are full of nonsense, however, there seems to be a new trend when it comes to the mainstream media outlets looking to create headlines and generate hits on their articles.

Last week it was Alfredo Morelos, this week it is Ryan Kent who, apparently, has Manchester United and Aston Villa fighting over his signature if you believe a report in The Sun. When you look a bit further than the title, it becomes pretty clear that, as yet, nobody is in for the Gers winger:

“Aston Villa continue to lead the way in the pursuit of Ryan Kent – but Manchester United are now hot on their heels.

“Sky Bet price the Old Trafford side as 6/1 second favourites to sign the Rangers winger.

“And another reunion is the current favourite with Sky Bet, as Aston Villa lead the way at 2/1 in the market.”

The whole point about the odds for a player moving is that it has almost no relevance on reality unless there is either a source or the player and his agent make some sort of an announcement. For example, me and a group of friends could agree to put £50 each on Kent to sign for Celtic and his odds of a transfer across the city would tumble without any chance of it actually happening.

Of the players approaching the last year of their Rangers contracts, Kent is one of the ones I’d expect to stay, he just seems to be happy with what he has at the club and truly appreciates the opportunities he has with us as opposed to a year relegation battle or mid-table obscurity – and that’s just with Man Utd.
