Rangers will take on Manchester United in the final of the SuperCup NI, tonight at Ballymena Showgrounds, Northern Ireland.

The U16 Gers have had a very productive week at the north-west tournament, culminating in the decider which will be screened live by BBC Northern Ireland.

The final kicks off at 6pm and can be viewed on this link – (possibly only available within the UK).

The players to look out for include recent signings from Motherwell and AFC Wimbledon respectively, Bailey Rice and Archie Stevens.

Progress

This experience of tournament football, new opponents and locations will aid the boys in their development.

On the pitch, they have answered most questions posed to them this week with only one defeat from four games up to now.

Atlante FC were the first opponents with a resounding 5-1 win for the Gers. That was followed by a 4-0 win over County Armagh, prior to the loss to Leeds United, 1-3. Last night, their place in the final was secured thanks to a 2-0 win over County Antrim.

The Junior Section decider will be contested by Rangers and Manchester United in what should be a good game with plenty of talent on display.

U16 coach Cameron Campbell has previous experience at the tournament with another development side, now he is sending the message to his young players that events like these can be the springboard to further success and the path to the first team at Rangers.

He told Belfast Live earlier this week:

“If you look at that 2004 squad from three years ago, Leon King was part of it and you now see those players making the first team.”

“So here’s hoping in another three years’ time some of these 2006 and ’07s make that step because that’s why we’re here.”

“Charlie Lindsay is another who featured heavily in that 2019 Junior win, and he is playing tonight for the B Team. It is brilliant to see that progression as they go through the Rangers Academy because everyone wants to see these players have a good career in football.”

“But the main thing is seeing how many of these young players can get into the Rangers first team.”

All the very best to the young Gers tonight!
