Rangers’ game against Motherwell last weekend was significant for a number of reasons. Of course, the scoreline was massive, and it was the first game in a while in which Steven Gerrard has truly left his mark.
It was also significant as it was the site of a Rangers debut for Serge Atakayi. The forward joined Rangers back in 2016, but up until now he had yet to get an opportunity.
That finally came against Motherwell, though, and he looked pretty good. However, the game ended poorly for him, as he was forced off with an injury.
Naturally, this will have raised some concern, but Atakayi’s latest update on the matter does come with a sense of optimism.
Clearly, he’s delighted to finally make his long-awaited debut for Rangers. It’s a big moment for him.
It’s a real shame, though, that it ended the way it did. Whilst he hasn’t offered much in the way of an injury outlook, the fact that he’s already working on a return does seem to suggest that he won’t be out long-term, and that’s a good thing for the ‘Gers.
The early signs were good, and we’re hoping that he’s back as soon as possible.
