Who needs enemies when you have “friends” like the Scottish government.

Lyon had looked to be lining up against Rangers without three of their key players when they travelled to red list countries during the international break, however, thanks to the SNP’s generosity, Tino Kadewere, Bruno Guimaraes and Lucas Paqueta will now be available to play at Ibrox.

Now, if you cast your mind back to the summer –  when case numbers were lower – did we get similar treatment for Alfredo Morelos or Fashion Sakala? No. No we didn’t, and as a result, going into Champions League qualifiers with just Cedric Itten fully fit played a huge part in our exit to Malmo.

Morelos would have been able to resume full training quicker and Sakala wouldn’t have been rushed to get him up to speed, something that Steven Gerrard has admitted played a part in the Zambian international struggling with injury since he arrived.

Which former Celtic striker currently plays for Lyon?

It’s an incredible decision to make when you consider how strict they have been with Scottish clubs since the pandemic first started to impact our lives, just because the three players are allowed to play in France because of an elite sports exemption, why should we bend our rules? Lyon would have known that this was the case before letting them head off on international duty, that Xherdan Shaqiri has also been allowed to play when he isn’t fully vaccinated and doesn’t meet the quarantine   exemption guidelines is another kick in the guts.

I’m pretty sure that if a similar situation presents itself for an opponent of our city rivals, our Celtic supporting health minister will apply exactly the same rules – of course he will, won’t he?
