Rangers linked with shock move for former Parkhead poster boy as winger faces career limbo

|

In what would be one of the most unlikely transfers in modern times, and one that would surpass the return of Kenny Miller following a stint in the East End, former Celtic loanee, Patrick Roberts, has been linked with a move to Ibrox, as transfer silly season goes into overdrive.

The source – a twitter account from France – is hardly reliable and there is little chance of any deal coming to fruition, Roberts’s near two and a half year spell in green and white would do little to endear him to Rangers fans and especially his close relationship with the Green Brigade’s poster boy, Kieran Tierney.

After returning to Manchester City in 2018 when his time in Glasgow came to an end, Roberts has bounced from one club to the next, dropping a level each time until he reached Middlesbrough last season where he managed just one goal and three assists in the second half of the season – the first half had been spent at Norwich City in the Premier League but 24 minutes worth of game time paints it’s own picture.

Patrick Roberts?

Yes, please

Yes, please

No chance!

No chance!

Rangers will be looking to strengthen the area of the pitch that Roberts plays in, however, it is now four years since he produced the sort of form that saw him score 11 goals and create 19 assists across the city, and when his contract expires at the Etihad in two years time, there will be as much chance of him having his stay extended than there is of him signing for Steven Gerrard this summer.
