Rangers will be left waiting on completing the signing of defender Jack Simpson, with Bournemouth checking on an injury suffered by Nathan Ake before sanctioning his move to Ibrox.

According to The Daily Mail, the Cherries have agreed a deal with the Gers to send the 21-year-old to Glasgow for the season on loan, in the hope he gets regular first-team football.

However, first-choice defender Nathan Ake suffered an injury against Marseille over the weekend, taking damage to his toe that has yet to be assessed fully.

That means Simpson’s move north has been delayed, with Steven Gerrard eager to make him the defensive capture he has been looking for over the last few weeks.

The Gers have already seen moves for the likes of Jake Cooper and Kean Bryan fall through and must be keeping their fingers crossed that another one doesn’t slip through the net.

Gerrard’s side are already looking impressive defensively, but a player like Simpson will give them the depth they need to compete in multiple competitions over the long season.

The young defender has just four senior appearances to his name, so clearly isn’t the finished product, but Gers fans will be hoping he has the potential to compete well in the Scottish Premiership.
