Rangers left sweating on potential January absence of key player

|

Rangers will have to wait until Thursday before finding out the disciplinary fate of striker Alfredo Morelos, after the Colombian was involved in a number of incidents with Celtic players during the weekend’s derby at Ibrox.

The striker was superb throughout the 1-0 win, but cameras caught him tangling with Scott Brown, Ryan Christie and Anthony Ralston during the 90 minutes.

Since referee John Beaton did not take action during the match, it leaves the 22-year-old open to the actions of the SFA Compliance Officer, with The Daily Mail reporting that a decision on any potential notice of complaint will be made in the next 48 hours.

Rangers have battled with the footballing authorities on multiple occasions this season already so it’ll be interesting to the see the outcome of all this.

Morelos has a history of losing his head a little in big matches, but the incidents on Saturday seemed mild and it seems pointless to ban a player when none of actions appeared to be taken with major anger or aggression.

Still, we know the SFA love a strange decision and it would be a major blow to lose Morelos for any action at all later this month, so fingers crossed nothing results of the compliance officer review.
