Rangers kick start January battle for exciting £2.7m-rated talent

|

Rangers are interested in signing up Wigan Athletic midfielder Nick Powell this January, according to a new report in The Scottish Sun.

The 24-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and the paper say that Rangers are keen on beating clubs like Celtic, Brighton and RB Leipzig to his pre-contract signature.

Currently rated as worth £2.7m by Transfermarkt, Powell has been one of the stand-outs at Wigan over the last few years.

In 2017/18 he scored 15 goals and assisted 7 times as they were promoted from League One to the Championship.

In the higher division this season he had an impressive run of form in the early stages of the campaign, scoring 4 and assisting 5 before dropping out of the team with hamstring issues.

The attacking midfielder could be the kind of creative link between defence and attack that Steven Gerrard’s side have been crying out for recently.

As a budget pre-contract signing the deal would appear to be ideal, especially if it also gets one up on Celtic, who are also reported to be interested.

Can we convince him that his future lies at Ibrox?
