There is no escaping the fact that Rangers squad is in a state of transition, with key players approaching the end of their contracts, veterans due to retire or be moved on and new players looking to establish themselves as first-team regulars and fans’ favourites in their own right.

The two most talked about are, of course, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos, for varying reasons, it’s painfully obvious that their previous status as being undroppable has changed and that we could well be better without them, however, as valuable assets, we should still be looking to tie them up on contract extensions to, at the very least, make some money out of them if we do decide to sell them.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed that he has talked to the players which suggest that he wants them to stay but, the Gers gaffer was quick to point out that contract negotiations are not part of his remit, as seen on the club’s official website:

“I’ve talked to the players. Of course, Ross Wilson is the one who is doing all the talks with the players and their agents.

“It’s not ideal to have players out of contract. We’ve seen it with Connor last season when he was out of contract. For us as a club, for myself, we are very pleased that he signed one in the summer but you don’t want to come into those situations.

“Sometimes it’s also the situation as it is but as of now I don’t have any update on whether we are close or not, you should ask Ross.”

Yes, it would be nice if we could hear from “Ross”, it’s been some time since we heard from our sporting director and there are several areas in which he could do with answering a few questions.

He doesn’t have to divulge any secrets but it would be nice if he could fill the information void, after all, this is the same man who said he was “relaxed” about contracts, and yet, only really Connor Goldson and Glen Kamara have committed their futures to the club from the core of our squad.

It’ll be a lot of money walking away from the club if Kent and Morelos leave in the summer and it looks as though we are no nearer to finding out what their plans are but, if they don’t improve on the park, I don’t think many will be bothered.
