Rangers will likely add to their ranks in midfield this summer but one previous target who will have had his name removed from the shortlist is Kenny McLean, with the Scotland international now ruled out for the next three months.

Norwich City revealed the extent of the damage to the Gers fan’s knee in a short statement, as reported by Sky Sports:

“Subsequent scans and further assessments have since revealed significant damage to the medial collateral ligament in McLean’s right knee.

“McLean will now undergo further assessment with an orthopaedic consultant to ascertain a management and rehabilitation plan for the injury.”

McLean will be gutted to miss the European Championships having played a key role in helping to get his country there, however, his priority will now be to get himself fit for Norwich City’s return to the Premier League. The injury suffered by the midfielder is similar to the one that kept James Tavernier out for two months although he didn’t require surgery to repair the damage.

The 29-year old has been linked with Rangers a few times and his name popped up again this season, however, he has since regained favour with Daniel Farke and was pivotal in seeing the Canaries return to the top flight at the first time of asking.

It would appear that McLean has now missed the boat for any remaining hopes that he might have had of one day pulling on the famous Light Blue shirt – gone are the days where will spend decent money on players with no sell on value – especially ones who have a history of knee injuries.
