It’s a shame Juninho Bacuna couldn’t put a strip on against Alashkert, his ability to pick a pass in tight spaces was sorely needed.

The irony is, his signing could mean that we see less of Ianis Hagi in a deeper midfield position, something Vital Rangers has been advocating for a while, which would be a real shame as the Romanian international has really grown into the extra responsibility.

He was one player who stood out against the Armenian’s – earning his manager’s praise in the process – not just for his ability in possession but for his work rate, tenacity, and desire to drag his team-mates through to a victory, he richly deserved the acclaim of the Ibrox crowd when he departed in the 94th minute.

Who scored Rangers first ever goal under Steven Gerrard in EL qualification?

Bacuna’s arrival does mean that we will no longer have to put a square peg into a round hole, regardless of how flexible Joe Aribo and Hagi may be, he is a natural midfielder and one that can contribute at both ends of the park – he may not be big, but what he lacks in size, he makes up for in tenacity.

One of the issues we’ve had this season has been the balance in midfield, John Lundstram looked good in a central position without Steven Davis but has seemed unsure in either a double pivot or as part of a three – it’s a totally different system to the one he is used to and one that places huge demands on players, he’s already under pressure from fans, he’ll need to adapt, and adapt quickly.
