Time for the sinner to become a saint and rejoin Gers title charge

|

How do we solve a problem like Jordan Jones?

Just as it looked as though he was starting to get his Rangers career back on track and finally produce the sort of form we know that he is capable of, he gets himself a seven-match suspension for breaching Covid-19 protocols.

Steven Gerrard, publicly, appears to have given both Jones and George Edmundson a second chance and looks to have forgiven the pair for behaviour that could have had altogether different consequences, as reported by the BBC:

“We’ll now move forward and try to get these players both back to where they need to be.

“They’ve gone about it the right way since they’ve accepted their punishments.”

The last thing the Gers gaffer would have wanted is to have to make do without a player who can contribute to his team for such a long period of time when there are so many fixtures, but the added bonus is that Jones will be fresh, unaffected by having to play two games a week since the beginning of the season.

I have gone almost full circle on this since the stories first broke about the breach and if we can get a better, more professional, replacement in then I’d be more than happy to see the Northern Ireland international head out the door, however, until then, he is a player that has shown – this season – that he can make a difference, even if it is just off the bench.

Will we see Jones in a Rangers shirt again?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Gerrard has sprung surprises before and although I wouldn’t expect to see him start anytime soon, we could yet see him feature off the bench, for example, his pace would have been an asset against Hibs in the last 15-20 minutes.

He’s done it before but Jones now faces his most difficult task in attempting to salvage his Rangers career, he might not be in the last chance saloon but he’s certainly having a look through the windows.
