Rangers are said to be eyeing up Peterborough United’s Jonson Clarke-Harris for a potential summer transfer with the striker’s sensational form in League 1 attracting interest from bigger teams.

With 26 goals in 38 games it’s easy to see why the Light Blues had scouts in attendance as the forward fired a hat-trick in a 7-0 demolition of Accrington Stanley and, according to Kevin Phillips, he would be a success in Scotland if the move comes off, as reported by Football Insider:

“He’s up there as the top goalscorer in that league now.

“He’s a lad that’s developed. He’s got better and better and he’s scoring goals for fun and again, it doesn’t matter what league you’re in when you know where the back of the net is.

“He’s in a team that creates chances and if he goes to Rangers he’ll be in another team that creates opportunities week in, week out.

“He’s a powerful lad as well. You could see that transfer working out. I don’t think he’d struggle up there, let’s put it that way.”

Having a striker that is capable of scoring goals both in the air and on the ground is a huge advantage, especially for a team that can rely on the quality of delivery that Borna Barisic and James Tavernier provide from the wings.

One of the key components to Rangers winning the league this season has been in tight games when opposition defences are refusing to leave the penalty area and we have been able to claim all three points due to our strength at set-pieces, having another target to aim for would cause further carnage in the opposition box as well as providing extra reinforcements in our own.

Much will depend on the futures of Jermain Defoe and Alfredo Morelos as to what our plan will be in the summer and what will need to be added to the forward line, given his goals, and his physicality, there is no reason why Clarke-Harris couldn’t be a potential replacement for both.
