Regardless of what has happened across the city, Rangers won the title this season because they have the better squad, one that was built over three seasons towards a game plan that has been ruthless domestically.
Recruitment has already started for next season and speculation is also rife with Joseph Okumu and Jonson Clarke-Harris rumoured to be attracting Rangers interest, something that Kevin Campbell – speaking to Football Insider – confirms that we now have the edge in.
“I think Steven Gerrard is going to try and really strengthen that squad.
“A goalscorer is a goalscorer and Clarke-Harris is brilliant at that. Anyone who can put the ball in the back of the net, they come at a premium. If you can get them for less than their market value then you’ve done really well.
“Rangers have outdone Celtic in that sense. They’ve slowly gone about their business recruiting players like Aribo who have done really well. They’ve run away with it this season.”
It wasn’t the referees, the SFA or any other conspiracy that saw Rangers win the league before the clocks went forwards, it was a strategic recruitment plan that identified where we needed to strengthen and got the work done early, Celtic seemed to place all their eggs in one basket – keeping key players – and it backfired spectacularly to the extent that they now need a massive overhaul.
Vital Rangers Player of the Year 2020/21
Being able to identify one or two players and add them to a successful team is a lot easier than a total rebuild, Campbell is right, with the right signings, the Light Blues will only go from strength to strength.
