It might not have been a pretty three points against Dundee, however, there was one Rangers player – other than Jon McLaughlin, who stood out like a sore thumb.

John Lundstram hasn’t had a bad game since being sent off against Alashkert, he looks fitter, more confident and in the last two games he’s been the one responsible for driving us forward from midfield, a task he has been more than a match for, Steven Gerrard singing his praises after a sticky start to life as a Ger, as reported by Football Scotland:

“He was the best player on the pitch by a mile. I’ve been almost smiling in disbelief at some of the reaction on the outside.

“I keep an eye on everything inside and outside, John is a fantastic player.

“He’s shown his quality in the last three games.

“He’s been finding his feet, it takes time to get up to speed and it takes time to learn how people play but he was an absolute powerhouse today.

“He was man of the match and the best player on the pitch by a mile.”

Initially it was thought that Lundstram would occupy the position left vacant by Ryan Jack’s injury enforced absence, however, his best games have come in the central role with Steven Davis being rested, playing it in a completely different style to the Northern Ireland skipper.

On more than one occasion, Lundstram picked the ball up with little on and took the responsibility to make something happen, driving at the Dundee defence to create chances for others. He was instrumental in the winning goal too, moving the ball quickly from one side to the other rather than taking the easy option of playing sideways or backwards.

Rangers went toe-to-toe with Inter Milan to sign Ronaldo when he left Barcelona.

It’s early days but the last few weeks have seen a much improved player and one who genuinely looks like he can improve the first-team, his inclusion also make us less predictable, other teams and manager’s are well aware of what Davis is capable of, Lundstram offers an element of surprise and unpredictability – something that, as we saw on Sunday, is very useful against a team that gets plenty of bodies behind the ball.
