Leon Balogun knows.

Apparently, John Lundstram is as humble as he is good at football. The 28-year old, and hero of the most memorable nights in many Rangers fans’ lives had the day off against Dundee United but still found himself, reluctantly, front and centre.

With 48,000 Rangers fans belting out a rendition of Berlinda Carlisle’s “Heaven is a place on earth” in tribute to the best player on the planet, the silky Scouser walked, minding his own business, with his team-mates around a sun-kissed Ibrox until Balogun took matters into his own hands and thrust Lundstram front and centre.

See for yourself…

It’s been an incredible few weeks for Lundstram, how quickly he has gone from a lot of fans wanting him punted in the January window to being the man of the moment has been incredible.

Phrases like “never a Ranger” were regularly seen on social media to describe the combative midfielder but now, he is the very definition of a Ranger – putting his body on the line, being brave in possession and doing whatever it takes to be a success in a Light Blue shirt.

Lundstram will now be wrapped up in cotton wool, with the likes of Ryan Kent, to make sure that he is fit and firing on all cylinders for the Europa League final such is his importance to the team nowadays.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been clever with how he has rotated his squad in such an important run of fixtures and, for all that Lundstram looks like the type of player who wouldn’t want to miss any minutes, he’s one of a few who shouldn’t worry about having to fight for his place in a game that could lead to immortality, however, I get the feeling that he’ll get up the next day and report for training just like any other day even if we do win.
