Joey Barton loves the sound of his own voice mind doesn’t he?

Not only that, have you ever known a player or manager to have a higher opinion of themselves without really having the career to back it up?

Now at Bristol Rovers with just three wins from the 14 games he has been in charge, Barton has taken to blaming everyone else for not being good enough rather accepting what he has and try to get the best out of them, in an all too familiar scenario.

He left Rangers after less than 10 games after falling out with Mark Warburton rather than addressing his own failings such as not reporting for pre-season training so that he could carry out media duties in the 2016 European Championships.

In a rant aimed at the everyone associated with the club in a move that won’t endear him to his new bosses he explained that because of his playing career, he knows what high standards are and that they currently aren’t being met – Joey, it’s Bristol Rovers, not Barcelona you’re at.

The Daily Record reported his rant in which he aimed a far from thinly veiled dig at Rangers and his old gaffer at Ibrox:

“People forget I left Glasgow Rangers because the club and the manager and the coaching staff, in my opinion, weren’t at the required level to dominate Scottish football and I’m someone that doesn’t suffer fools.

“I’ve never suffered them in my career and I’ve been fortunate to spend most of my career in the top division in the world. I’ve had five seasons outside it.

“Three in the Championship where I’ve won it twice, once by a record points total, and the other time in a play-off final. I’ve had a year in France at Olympique Marseille where we finished second and qualified for the Champions League, and then I had two months up at Glasgow Rangers and came back to the Premier League.

“They’re the only times I’ve spent outside the elite level of football, which is the Premier League, and I know how things need to be done.

“That’s not me being blasé, I’m the only guy in the building who’s operated at that level for a long, long period. It’s something that I expect.”

For a start, that’s not how you use the word “blasé” Joey, maybe try “arrogant” next time, it’ll fit better. Secondly, all this has done is make him look like a quitter.

In this season’s title winning team we have Allan McGregor and Steven Davis, the Rangers team they joined was nowhere near the level of the one they left, but did they mump about it? No, they set about dragging everyone else up to their standards.

Barton will always be a loser, why? Because everything is always someone else’s fault, never his, he was garbage in a Light Blue shirt for one reason and one reason only – his own arrogance thought he could stroll Scottish football and he was found out every week were unfortunate enough to see him in the starting XI.
