One of the first journalists to suggest that Rangers could be interested in signing Juninho Bacuna has now suggested that we are lining up a January move for another Championship midfielder.

Alan Nixon, has claimed that Ross Wilson is eyeing up Blackburn Rovers Joe Rothwell, the 26-year old former Manchester United academy graduate who will be able to speak to clubs outside of England to discuss a pre-contract move in January.

Currently valued at over £1.6million, the England youth cap has played every game for Blackburn this season and has three assists in his 11 appearances, as per our usual midfielder recruitment, he is capable of playing as a defensive, box-to-box or as an attacking midfielder.

Rangers went toe-to-toe with Inter Milan to sign Ronaldo when he left Barcelona.

It’s the sort of player that we have seen linked with Rangers on numerous occasions since our sporting director arrived from Southampton, one that is approaching peak age and available for a very small initial outlay – it may be that with Scott Arfield’s contract set to expire at the end of this season that we are looking at a potential long-term replacement in Rothwell.

The squad could see more activity in the next 12 months or so with a few senior players coming up to the end of their deals, Steven Gerrard spoke after the defeat to Sparta Prague that we need to spend money to compete, but. until we starting selling players for decent fees, this is the market we will be shopping in – we need to make money before we can start spending it.
