In what was a subdued transfer market at Rangers level, keeping hold of key players was met with a mixed reponse.

We need to sell eventually to help balance the books but we also need fresh income to invest in the playing squad, in short, we can’t have it both ways.

One player who has seen speculation increase recently is Joe Aribo, the Nigerian international now said to be catching the eye of Crystal Palace after the ease at which Odsonne Edouard has made the “step up” to the Premier League.

As yet, nothing concrete has emerged, however, a report in Football Insider has claimed that a source has revealed the figure it would take to see Aribo head south:

“Rangers will demand a £10million-plus transfer fee for Joe Aribo in the January window.

“The versatile midfielder, 25, is on the radar of clubs south of the border going into next year and amid growing doubts over his long-term Ibrox future.

“A Rangers source has told Football Insider that the club have no intention of letting Aribo go easily and it would take an eight-figure fee to get a deal done.”

A figure of £10m would probably be the starting point for any negotiations given the level of football that Aribo has been exposed to since signing for Rangers, a regular starter in the Europa League and one of the first names on the team sheet for his country shows how important a player he is.

His ability to play in a front three, as a number ten, in midfield or even at left-back makes him a coaches dream, a level of technical ability to match a physicality not often seen in a player with his skillset.

Aribo is too good for the Scottish Premiership and at 25-years old, he may see any opportunity as the perfect chance to test himself against better opposition week in, week out – either way, as a player who arrived for a small development fee, Rangers are set to make a fortune when he does eventually leave.
