Gerrard factor could be key in race for Liverpool legend’s son

Those of you that are familiar with the Football Manager computer/console game will be well aware of some of the names that are created when “regens” appear in your youth academy. Famous surnames reappearing years after their celebrated namesakes have retired.

Current transfer speculation reads like a who’s who of the past with names like Hagi, Haaland, Reyna, Van Hooijdonk, Simic and the latest to join the list – Carragher, as reported as an exclusive by GIVEMESPORT.

Vital Rangers identified NAC Breda’s Sydney van Hooijdonk as a potential target should any of our strikers leave, Roko Simic has been tipped for the top by Nikica Jelavic with Ross Wilson said to be keeping an eye on the towering 17-year old but the latest rumour claims that James Carragher is another youngster with a famous dad to be attracting our attention.

The 18-year old is yet to make any real impression on senior football but with him being out of contract in the summer, Steven Gerrard could take advantage of his relationship with his old man and persuade him to spur the advances of Everton in a cut-price deal.

Obviously Carragher wouldn’t be signed for the first-team squad with six senior centre halves and Leon King already established but it is a potential transfer that is very much part of the way forward, the other thing, and I’m only half joking, is that a famous name does affect a player’s transfer fee. Club’s will always take a punt in the hopes that a player could one day emulate their parent and if it doesn’t work out at Rangers, we wouldn’t be short of offers.
