With the new season SPFL Premiership fixtures released today, Rangers August schedule will be a formidable one.

The league opener and raising of the league flag comes on the 31st of July at home to Livingston – a game which commences a frantic first period of the season, right through to the international break in the first week of September.

As well as the defence of the Scottish title, coming thick and fast in August is the Champions League qualifiers, a Premier Sports Cup tie as well as the first Old Firm clash of the new season when new Parkhead boss Ange Postecoglou will bring his Celtic team across the city to do battle once again.

The breathless opening to the season will look like this:

Jul 31 – Livingston – H

Aug 3/4 – CL Q3 1st Leg

Aug 7 – Dundee United – A

Aug 10 – CL Q3 2nd leg

Aug 14/15 – League Cup Last 16

Aug 17/18 – CL PO 1st Leg

Aug 21 – Ross Co. – A

Aug 24/25 – CL PO 2nd Leg

Aug 28 – Celtic – H

Of course, if the Gers were to fall at the first Champions League hurdle then the second stage of qualifiers would be for the Europa League.

Other notable league fixtures are apparent, with December in particular looking very tasty.

A trio of away trips to Hibs, Hearts and Aberdeen comes along with home games against Dundee, Dundee United and St Mirren – with a strong possibility of European football to be added, it means a feast of football to end the year before bringing in the new one at Parkhead on January 2nd.

The full Premiership fixture list, up to the split, is available above.
