Rangers have sent scouts to check on Willem II striker Fran Sol, according to website TEAMtalk.

It’s no secret that Steven Gerrard and his recruitment team are looking for a forward in the January transfer window, with Kyle Lafferty failing to impress as back-up to Alfredo Morelos and Umar Sadiq returning to Roma.

Who that forward might be is a source of excitement for Rangers supporters, who are hoping the club can attract a real gem to Glasgow.

Step forward Fran Sol, a player who is scoring for fun in Eredivisie this season.

A graduate of the Real Madrid academy, the player has scored 15 times in 18 appearances so far this season.

Although he is rated as worth £3.6m by Transfermarkt, he’s out of contract in the summer and is a potential bargain signing.

TEAMtalk report that the Gers are one of the teams interested in his signature, facing competition from rivals Celtic and teams in the English Premier League.

Is he the attacking gem that Steven Gerrard is looking for?
