Steven Gerrard appears to be closer to securing his much needed extra numbers for his first team squad with the news that Bongani Zungu is set to discuss personal terms with the Ibrox club.
The Scotsman reports that the South African international is keen to join Rangers and with Amiens allowing terms to be discussed it can be presumed that a fee has already been agreed between the two sides with a fee believed to be around the £3.5million mark.
The 27-year old fits the profile of player that Gerrard is looking for to add extra quality to his starting XI with 24 international caps to his name and experience in one of Europe’s top leagues.
The Gers gaffer has spoken recently about his desire for extra numbers and specifically additional firepower to support the efforts of Jermain Defoe and Alfredo Morelos.
The Colombian international has been the subject of intense speculation recently with Lille rumoured to have agreed terms with the striker and Rangers rejecting a £13m offer, however, both the club and player have since played down these reports.
Although the arrival of Zungu would be well received, fans of the Light Blues will be eagerly anticipating news of any strikers that may be close to signing, the latest rumour being Bordeaux hitman Josh Maja, who was said to be on Gerrard’s radar last season.
Ross Wilson has performed admirably in the transfer market since he joined and much of Rangers hopes of wrestling the title from Celtic’s grasp will depend on whether or not he can secure the final pieces of the jigsaw needed to complete Gerrard’s line-up.
