Rangers are interested in signing Liverpool prospect Ben Woodburn on loan this January, according to The Scottish Sun.
The paper claim that Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard attempted to take the striker on loan during the last transfer window, but was not successful, with the Welsh international eventually moving to English Championship side Sheffield United.
With Woodburn now recalled to Liverpool because of a lack of game time, Gerrard is again keen on bringing him to Scotland, says the report.
However, the Gers face a battle to convince the Reds they are the best option with Blackburn, Brentford, Hull, West Brom and Wigan all interested in giving him an opportunity.
Woodburn, who is rated as worth £4.5m by Transfermarkt, would have a tough task to win his way into the starting eleven at Ibrox with the likes of Ryan Kent impressing on the wings right now.
Gerrard’s pursuit of the teenager may hint that Jordan Jones, signed up on a pre-contract last week won’t be arriving at the club during the January transfer window.
Despite playing just seven times for Sheffield United this season, Woodburn is thought to have a bright future in the game having burst onto the Anfield scene two years ago when he became the club’s youngest ever goalscorer.
Having also won nine caps with Wales already, the next step for the youngster is playing regularly for a senior side.
Will that be possible at the Gers?
